Tai Chi in The Park with Carl

This 15-week intro to Tai Chi, held in beautiful Lindsey Gardens at 7th Ave. and N Street, begins Monday May 19th and is held Mondays from 6-7:15pm.

This class has filled for the last six years, so make sure to pre-register if you are interested…

This introductory class will explore the rich world of

Tai Chi and qi gong practice through the changing seasons in Lindsey Gardens, the lovely, quiet, public park at the top of N Street in the Avenues. A unique and rewarding approach to learning Tai Chi includes qi gong practices, Feldenkrais, Embodied Life and Bones For Life movement explorations, push hands experiments and and other explorations of the Tai Chi principles. Much more than just learning the form, our focus is on letting the qualities we explore through Tai Chi begin to influence our whole life.

The second half of each class will focus on embodying these principles through the learning and practice of a Yang style Tai Chi form. A new piece will be added on each week.

According to Yang Chen Fu, the three most important rules in Tai Chi are as follows:

1. Relax.

2. Relax.

3. Relax.

In this class, we will explore how to bring that quality of embodied, relaxed, alert presence into how we move in our lives.

Some of the questions we will explore are:

How do I discover, and continually return to, a vital, nourishing, alive connection with the ground?
Can I learn to bring warmth, curiosity and friendliness to the places I hold tension?
Can I move in the world in a way that has a quality of grace, self respect, power and integrity?
Can I maintain a connection to my own center without disconnecting from the world around me?
Can my breath be free, spontaneous, uncontrived?

I look forward to joining you in these explorations.

Class will begin Monday May 19th and will continue on Mondays from 6-7:15 pm for a total of 15 weeks. (no class on June 9th)
