Could you imagine feeling more relaxed, energized and present in your body after a full day of giving massages? Many bodyworkers get burned out due to the physical and emotional demands of their work. In this course we will explore how the principles and applications of the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education can enhance and inform a massage therapy practice, adding longevity, awareness and joy to your chosen profession.
Through Awareness Through Movement lessons, hands on experiments, and discussion we will explore ways to return to a natural, easy way of movement and self-organization and how to maintain and deepen that organization while working with a client. We will also explore ways of refining skills of attention, touch and observation, both of self and other.

And a chance to escape the heat and deeply relax:
Restorative Yoga Retreat
with Erin Geesaman Rabke
at Snowbird's Cliff Spa
Sunday August 17th

Join me for an afternoon of guided practice in deeply nourishing Restorative Yoga. The workshop will be held from 12:30-4pm but you can make a day of enjoying the pristine mountain setting and the spa amenities, including a spectacular rooftop pool and jacuzzi, eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, exercise equipment and more. Cost is $50 prepaid, $55 day of class and price includes use of the spa. Treatments cost extra - to find out more or to schedule a massage (or even to rent a room) visit http://www.snowbird .com/spa/ cliffspa. html

Restorative Yoga is a very gentle, yet deeply powerful practice designed to balance and restore the body and mind of the practitioner to a state of optimum health, clarity and calm, which can arise quite naturally when we are supported in relaxation. The moment the practice begins you are planting the seed for radiant healthy wellbeing to arise. During the 3.5 hours of the workshop, we'll likely practice only six to eight postures and be holding them for up to 25 minutes each. (Don't worry - this isn't hard work - you get to drape yourself over a yoga bolster and let gravity and your breath do the work.) Registered participants will be able to use the spa amenities both before and after the workshop - a great reason to make it a day of self care and enjoyment. (and cleaner air...)

Please feel free to contact me with questions or for more information by replying to this email or calling me at 801-898-0478. No yoga experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome regardless of your fitness level.
To register you can mail a check to Erin Geesaman Rabke @ 823 e 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103.

 The Movement of Self-Compassion

with Erin and Carl, Saturday Sept. 13, 1-4:30 pm
at Sugarspace, 616 e Wilmington Ave (2190 s)

As we'll be exploring the movement of self compassion, perhaps we should consider: What is non-compassionate movement?  Force.  Pushing without listening.  Forcing oneself into a "correct" posture while ignoring the body's continuous feedback, which arises in the form of sensation.  Non-compassionate movement creates an internal conflict between our imagined ideal of how we should be and how we actually are.  For so many of us, self-aggression can creep into our most well-intentioned ways of working with our embodied selves.  Self-aggressiveness shows up in exercise, yoga practice, sports and the movements of daily life and can give rise to repetitive stress-injury, stress, burn out, and a sense of never being good enough.
Lasting improvement in movement and posture arises most easily and effectively when we're in a learning state.  In the Feldenkrais Method, we understand that learning is enhanced in an environment of non-judgmental awareness and curious sensitivity where we are free to explore options without the fear of "making a mistake."As senior Feldenkrais teacher Ruthy Alon writes in Mindful Spontaneity , "This patience to allow someone the time to ripen from within is a virtue that academic learning in our culture seems to have missed.  When you experience Awareness Through Movement, you are your own witness.  This is the advantage of awareness.  When you act consciously, your are simultaneously both the doer and the patient observer, whose presence gives support while standing on the side."
Through this afternoon workshop, which will include three unique Awareness Through Movement lessons, you have an opportunity to wean yourself from the need to excel in the eyes of others and to experience a deep trust of your own embodied intelligence; to move with self-friendliness.  In addition to these gentle movement lessons we will also have time for class discussion. Please bring a blanket for padding on the floor.
Cost is $45 prepaid, $50 day of class.
Your space in this course will be reserved by sending a check to Erin Geesaman Rabke at  823 e 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103.

Improve the Way You Run

Saturday Sept. 27, 1-6pm with Erin & Carl
$75

In this 5 hour workshop, we will use several unique Awareness Through Movement lessons in combination with running to support each participant in understanding personal elements of good form. In a safe learning environment each participant will be able to experience energetic, efficient, healthy, and technically masterful running.  We'll focus on lessons which will allow you to feel for yourself how best to align your hips, knees and feet to reduce knee and foot strain, how to use the core muscles for maximum efficiency, and how to coordinate the upper and lower body for power and speed. Please bring a blanket for padding on the floor and come dressed to run. This may be the first time you've broken a sweat in a Feldenkrais class! :) We'll be spending time both indoors for the floor lessons and outdoors for running. If you're among the 60% of runners who are injured in any given year, don't hesitate to participate - you can sit out for the active running parts and can participate and learn a lot from the safe and easy Feldenkrais lessons.  The world is not short on running advice  -  this workshop will be different. This class will allow you to safely explore nuances in form so you can feel for yourself (perhaps for the first time) what actually works best for you.
Your space in this class will be reserved by sending a check to Erin Geesaman Rabke at
 823 e 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103. Cost is $75 prepaid, $85 drop in.

Experiential Anatomy Weekend Intensive
Oct. 4-5 @ Sugarspace  with Erin & Carl
Cost is $150 and includes a ticket to the Bodyworlds Exhibit at the Leonardo and an audio cd of the movment lessons.
see www.theleonardo. org

We are thrilled to offer this workshop, and based on the enthusiastic response we've received from our clients whom we've told about it, I imagine it will fill early.
During this enlightening workshop, we'll explore our anatomy from the inside - vivifying the somatic perspective on being embodied. We'll be using Awareness Through Movement lessons, experiential anatomy inquiries, and partner explorations. On Saturday after the workshop, we'll head over to the Leonardo to experience the Bodyworlds exhibit. (The Leonardo suggests 90 minutes for the exhibit, but you may wish to stay longer. I believe they close at 8pm.)  Carl and I drove to Denver a few years ago to experience this exhibit of plastinated and artfully dissected and displayed cadavers and were truly amazed. Check the website for the Leonardo which has tons of information about Bodyworlds and what you can expect to see during your visit. Seeing bodies in such intimate detail will bring a unique perspective to our second day of movement and experiential anatomy explorations. If the workshop fills early, we may repeat it in November.
Your space in this workshop will be reserved by sending a check to Erin Geesaman Rabke

@ 823 e 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103.

Discovering Your Skeleton
Sat. Oct 18th, 1-4:30pm
with Carl & Erin

Much of the reason why osteoporosis is such a growing concern in our culture is that we have lost touch with our skeletons. Our intimacy with things like couches, lazy boy chairs, school desks and automobile seats provide a kind of exoskeleton of support, such that our bony structure is not required to keep us upright. In this workshop we will learn how to organize ourselves around the supportive presence of our bones. The more we learn how to rely on our bones, the stronger the bones become, the more our posture improves, and the less muscular effort and energy is required to hold us up against the force of gravity. Interestingly, Moshe Feldenkrais felt that the evolution of human consciousness was related to increased awareness of one's own skeleton. Come find out for yourself the many levels of support you can find within yourself when moving, feeling, and using your bones.
Cost is $45 prepaid, $50 day of class. Your space in this class will be reserved by sending a check to Erin Geesaman Rabke @ 823 e 1st Ave, SLC UT 84103. With questions, call 801-898-0478.

And here is a little acclaim for this wonderful method we're so enamored of:

Research

There is a growing body of research to support the efficacy of the Feldenkrais Method. In addition to the many case studies that contain detailed information about the interventions used with individuals, a number of recent studies incorporating larger groups, more effective methods, and random assignment control have been conducted. The following represent some of the three dozen studies included in "Complementary Therapies in Rehabilitation" (Slack Incorporated. Thorofare, NJ 2004), Chapter 12, written by James Stephens, PT, PhD., CFP and Teresa M. MillerFT.), PT, MS, CFT. (Information provided by the Feldenkrais Guild of North America.
